Artist's Comments

The dead have remembered
our indifference
The dead have remembered
our silence
The dead have remembered
our words

all the living are guilty

little children
who offered bouquets of flowers
are guilty
lovers are guilty
guilty are poets
guilty are those who ran away
and those that stayed
those who were saying yes
those who said no

and those who said nothing.

a 15kg 17 year-old boy with his grandmother

Doing my medical elective in Africa did something to me. Something special that cannot be replicated by any amounts of TV, or movies, or poems, or photographs.

Something that everyone needs to see, but so many don't.

Something that people see in the news, sigh, shake their heads, then return to their dinner.

Spread the message. Open your eyes.

Daily DeviationNormally I would have passed this suggestion off to one of the general photography gallery directors. I am the artistic nude gallery director and usually feature work accordingly. But when this came in and I opened the link, I decided to do it myself. The image did something to me. Not in the sort of way tragic images are displayed on the evening news. Like so many I have become desensitized to the moving image of television. The same cannot be said for photography. Images have a tendency to move me in ways other mediums cannot. Perhaps we all feel that way about our chosen form. Photography, the genre I love so much, can make me cry. And that is precisely what happened when I saw this. plight of africa by *CatchMe-22 (Suggested by ~maryana01 and Featured by `arachnid15)

This is so incredibly moving, what a powerful shot!
It is crazy how oblivious people can be to what is going on in the world! & even if they DO see it and are aware of it, they continue to do nothing!

I really want to go to Africa for one or two years before college, and this has only added to my determination to help!!

Wonderful work, thank you for sharing!!
my friend, this has to be the most moving and powerful shot i have ever seen on here..

this is a problem that needs to be highlighted more so people are aware of the problem.

thank you for sharing this.

The more I understand women, the more I  my dog..
You should consider doing darkroom with photographs as powerful as this. Such a provocative image would be even more so on paper.

I also recomend that you set up an email and paypal and sell prints that way, as DA takes nearly all of the profit from selling your prints. You could also aproach UNICEF to get a book made if you have more photos, and tell them to sell them. There are many ways to raise money, and I am proud that you are doing this to help these people in need.

Really beautifulily shot and a very moving image.

I decided to be poor. I became, a photogapher!

A very moving piece.

Thank you for opening our eyes to things we choose not to see.

Do you know what it's like to be sane in an insane world?
That is a very moving photo. Pullitzer worthy.
